Adding a Negative Keyword to a Performance Max Campaign

Hi,

I am attempting to add a negative keyword (as a campaign_criterion) to a PMax Campaign. This is an operation that is supported in the Google Ads UI, but when attempting to create such a campaign criterion through the API it gives me an error that "The operation is not allowed for the given context".

I'm using the latest Google Ads API v19.

I'm using GoogleAdsService.Mutate to send the request, with one campaign_criterion_operation, containing one "create" operation with these attributes set:

- campaign (the resource name of the pmax campaign)

- status of ENABLED

- negative is true

- keyword is set, with a keyword text and match type of EXACT

Thank you for contacting the Google Ads API support team.

At the moment, you can include the criteria outlined in the documentation. Note that adding negative keywords for performance max campaigns is not supported in the Google Ads API.

However, I'll raise a feature request to be available in Google Ads API. I cannot provide a scheduled timeline for the availability of this feature in the API. I would recommend you to please follow our Release Notes and Blog post for future updates.
